The bark, leaves and roots are used because they contain pentacyclic oxindolic alkaloids (isopteropodine, pteropodine, mitrafiline, hirsutine and others), polyhydroxylated triterpenes, indolic alcohols, organic acids, flavonoids, tannins, procyanidins and bitter constituents, among others.
